Your “new” model isn’t new at all. You’re regurgitating the same theories that situate the locus of responsibility for addiction within the individual (with whiffs of the bio psycho social model every now and then). Addiction has virtually nothing to do with distress intolerance; most “addicts” are a) labeled as such because they’re visibly poor; and b) as poor drug users, contend with trauma that I reckon you wouldn’t be able to fathom. The fact that so many of us haven’t suicided is testament to our resilience, particularly given the stigma and discrimination that dictates our daily lives. The “solution” to addiction is legalizing drugs and eliminating poverty (and with it, anti-Black racism and colonialism). This is a lot of words to say more of the same.
