Yes! My god, this piece is poignant and long overdue. I tried (and failed) to subvert this dynamic in the rooms as I became aware of it, but ultimately doing so was/is futile: the disease model de-politicizes and individualizes addiction, and discussing systemic oppression is so taboo that (at least in my experience), those who can’t or won’t understand become aggressive to cope with their own discomfort. It’s gaslighting, plain and simple. Solidarity.
