Just want to highlight that OCD isn’t merely a “brain disorder” – it mostly emerges in response to trauma and lack of environmental safety (which is in part why restrictive eating disorders are rooted in OCD). You’ve spoken at length about the orderly aspect of OCD but this is also too narrow: it can present in people who are ostensibly messy and even unclean. For example, mine manifests as intrusive thoughts/command psychosis (depending on which psychiatrist I’ve spoken with). This entails violent, omnipresent voices screaming terrifying commands that I definitely don’t want to follow through with. As with all brain related issues, OCD is misunderstood by even (arguably, especially) medical professionals, and in my experience, requires individualized, trauma informed care.
