I understand where you’re coming from, *and* this piece was tough to get through because it’s so stigmatizing. The “stereotypical addict” you describe is also often a stereotypical poor, homeless person for whom drug use is a survival strategy. I understand that we all have different journeys, but by immediately asserting that you’re “clean,” and then detailing all the horrific things you did as an “addict,” you’re throwing your own people under the bus. Many of us don’t have some of the privileges you were born with, and with that recovery, framed as a resource that is more of less accessible based on one’s social locations, simply isn’t reachable.
