I feel for you and your mom. I am the addicted child, and I was completely abandoned by my family (mostly because they weren’t willing to acknowledge that my suffering derived from years of abuse). Children don’t have the same responsibility to care for their parents, but I’m grateful for all your sakes that you haven’t given up. Remember that for some, recovery doesn’t necessarily entail abstinence. Emotional healing takes many forms, and sometimes self medicating is suicide prevention.
