As an “addict,” I find this quite distressing. You have very briefly experienced the euphoria evoked by one’s first encounters with opiates. Things you can’t possibly begin to fathom include: the pain of withdrawal; the fact that for most long term users, the desperation to keep going has nothing to do with euphoria and everything to do with staving off excruciating dope sickness; the multi-dimensional oppression that leads to most addiction; the despair associated with being treated as sub-human and excluded from access to employment, education, housing, and safety; The deep desire for death triggered by a society who makes it abundantly clear that they don’t give a shit about you; the terror of wanting help and knowing that you can’t afford it.

So yeah, I get your headline was click bait, but maybe think a bit harder next time.
